Reports are streaming in from all over Vermont indicating that another fantastic fall foliage season is now well underway. Indeed, the pace of color development has increased over the last week, said Vermont Forests, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Michael Snyder.

The hardwoods are really starting to turn with yellows, oranges, and red hues spreading and increasing in vibrancy. All regions are now moving past mid-peak conditions with full-on peak colors on the way. Spectacular vistas are anticipated, especially in the northeast and along the Green Mountains, even into southern Vermont.

“As great as the show is already, there remains a surprising volume of leaves still on the trees, with 30-50 percent still green in many parts of the state,” said Snyder. “This means the viewing is only going to get better. With cooperative weather, we can expect an outstanding build-up and finale for this year’s fall foliage display.”

Assuming no heavy rains and wind reach the state, we anticipate a glorious finale of fall foliage spreading across Vermont over Columbus Day weekend and into the middle of October.
